Embedding Youtube Videos

Test:

Aha, that worked!  Just stick the Youtube link inside the "media" tags, e.g.

Code:
[media]http://the-youtube-link.com[/media]

Wow!! Very cool. I recall Tre making a request for such a device. Nobody told him we had one here on the message board. Probably because no one including Mike knew.
Thanks Irizona.

Cool, but completely unneccessary and pointless, firstyl, because noone wants to watch the videos in such small frames, and secondly, if we start posting videos like this, after fifty loading the topic will be a pain in the ass, with 50 separate player applets loading.

You can watch the video in a larger screen than the one in the post by clicking the image a second time which then takes you to the video as presented at Youtube.

Eventually the thread will slow down if everyone uses this device but this problem is no different than the problem every thread with hotlinked pictures experiences. It will take a while before this catches on. Most people will continue to simply copy and paste links.

You can click on it, but whats the advantage over a link then? Apart from taking 1000 times more resources and bandwith to load.

Here's how I embedded your video, Abs.

The advantage is to see a preview.

Find it really irritating. Anyone who feels need to do this should also post a standrad link as well - thst way I can go staright to full-size Youtube action without having to start/stop a useless mini-version first.

You don't need to stop the video. All you need to do is click on the video a second time. The embedded video automatically stops and the Youtube site plays the video just as it would if a link were clicked.
Not everyone thinks embedding is useless. We have many, many videos that are reposted over and over because people don't bother to check every video link that's posted. Consequently they often times don't know if a video they find on Youtube has already been posted. I don't know about you but I'm much more likely to remember a picture with an identifier on it than a linking code.
Embedding is a real convenience and I honestly don't understand your complaint. And I wouldn't worry too much about it. It doesn't seem to be catching on with most posters here because most are too lazy and uninteresting to try anything new.

Click on the Youtube icon within the embedded picture. It will take you to the Youtube video without playing the embedded video within the post.
