Contrast the above with the breakdown in 2012. I copied both of these images from London's Daily Mail website.

...

You'll note that Obama won over women voters with a 55%/45% split in 2012 but Hillary lost the female vote substantially!

How to explain this glaring change? The Nation online tries.

...

Attempts to explain what the hell happened on Tuesday have been coming fast and furious. Hillary Clinton was touted by her supporters as the best-qualified candidate ever to run for president. How could she have possibly lost to a buffoon who is not only a political novice but also a despicable bully, nasty racist, world-class grifter, and deranged sex criminal?

Racism was certainly an important factor. A slew of studies have found that Trump supporters rack up high scores on measures of racial resentment. Sexism, too, is part of the story. Hillary Clinton was subjected to a nonstop barrage of ugly misogynist attacks by Trump, his supporters, and users of social media. No wonder the gender gap—24 points—was the largest in the history of presidential elections. And if you still question whether racism and misogyny played a significant role in this election, the many frightening acts of violence and harassment aimed at women and people of color that have occurred in the wake of Trump’s victory should quell any remaining doubts.

" In my dozens of interviews with working class women across the country, a common refrain has echoed: They feel invisible in our politics, our economy and our culture. They feel that our political leaders don’t care about their struggles or their aspirations—from the daily grind of balancing work and caregiving to the dream of giving their children a better future through college, without saddling them with crippling debt."

But it’s not only the Democratic Party that is badly in need of reform. The feminist movement, too, needs to reorient itself. Feminists would be well-advised to ease up on pop culture navel-gazing and corporate pseudo-feminist drivel like Lean In.
They need to shift their central focus from the glass ceiling to the sticky floor, which, after all, is the place where most women dwell.
A feminism that delivers for working-class women by addressing their material needs could expand feminism’s base and bring about a much-needed feminist revival. A feminism that delivers for working-class women by addressing their material needs could radically expand feminism’s base. And should feminism once again become a vibrant bottom-up mass movement instead of a top-down elite concern, there’s no telling how far it could go.

Inequality Between Women Is Crucial to Understanding Hillary’s Loss

Here's another online site which is scratching its head trying to figure out how this oaf managed to defeat an experienced respected politician like Clinton.

OK, so that just happened. Donald Trump always enjoyed massive support from uneducated, low-information white people. As Bloomberg Politics reported back in August, Hillary Clinton was enjoying a giant 25 percentage-point lead among college-educated voters going into the election. (Whether that trend held up remains to be seen.) In contrast, in the 2012 election, college-educated voters just barely favored Barack Obama over Mitt Romney. Last night we saw something historic: the dance of the dunces. Never have educated voters so uniformly rejected a candidate. But never before have the lesser-educated so uniformly supported a candidate. Trump supporters might retort: “That’s because Trump supports the little guy and Clinton helps the already privileged college grads.” But that’s false: Trump supporters in the primaries had an average income of about $72,000 per year. They aren’t rich, but make more than the national average and more than Clinton supporters.

Trump owes his victory to the uninformed. But it’s not just Trump. Political scientists have been studying what voters know and how they think for well over 65 years. The results are frightening. Voters generally know who the president is but not much else. They don’t know which party controls Congress, what Congress has done recently, whether the economy is getting better or worse (or by how much). In the 2000 U.S. presidential election, most voters knew Al Gore was more liberal than George W. Bush, but significantly less than half knew that Gore was more supportive of abortion rights, more supportive of welfare-state programs, favored a higher degree of aid to blacks, or was more supportive of environmental regulation.

...

Trump Won Because Voters Are Ignorant, Literally

Once again you may be required to register for this but it's free and worth the short time it takes.

I myself have a bone to pick with so called progressives who constantly heaped criticism on Clinton before and after her nomination. She's not a great campaigner. She's not a stirring speaker but she does champion the liberal values that I and other Democrats believe in. Yes she took speaking fees from corporations. So what? Even if you that means she's somehow beholden to banks and corporations she's still a far cry from the cringe inducing authoritarian despot that is Donald Trump. Hopefully he'll behave responsibly but this is a man who has filed for bankruptcy six times so he's not a great businessman or savvy entrepreneur. He doesn't even own most of the buildings that have his name on them. His name is trademarked and that's how he makes most of his income.
The man is a fraud. Hopefully he surrounds himself with competent advisors who can keep him in check. Otherwise we'll experience a really shitty four years.
If there's no major war we'll survive. We wont thrive but we'll survive.

Two psychologist study Trump's narcissism.
...

Oh boy. It's gonna be a crazy world.

Hillary was extremely disconnected from the working class which helped rapist Trump wins the election.  However, Hillary did win the popular vote...

Hillary Clinton:

60,467,176 votes (47.7%)

Donald Trump:

60,072,540 votes (47.4%)

http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/president

Trump wins the EC 290 to Hillary 228.  We all question the legitimacy of e EC in modern era. This is the second time in 16 years which the EC has revoke the popular vote...  It is time to call our representative to remove the ancient EC system. This is not a performance of direct democracy if our voices are not being heard...perhaps this soon-to-be revolution would ultimately remove the constitutional barriers that will grant us more freedom to vote by popularity..  we should grant more freedom for 3rd party choices.  HRC has caused the DNC for her failure to  beat a misogyny bigot.  We would beaten Trump if we had Sanders running against Trump. The presidential race would  never been this close or controversial. Sanders appeals to the working class as he calls for minimum wage hike and end women's pay inequality. Now we elected a man with regress ideals such as denying Paris climate deals, reverses carbon emission policies, reverse social issues such as women's reproductive rights, gay and disabled rights, delays progressive economy such as green energy, sustainable energy, earth-friendly industries. I do agree with his immigration policies but Obama has done a fine job deporting more immigrants than any president has ever done. His war policies are generally unclear except kick ISIS's asses. Obama get an "A" in defeating ISIS so I think he'll continue Obama's ISIS policies. Obamacare need a quick facelift as affordability will be reduced starting in 2017. It is another issue why Hillary lost b/c she wants to stick to status quo like Obamacare, etc. She leans too much as a corporatist. People including me are weary of status quo politicians who does nothing but for their own personal gain. Hillary did not catch on why voters turned their backs on her.. we elect a non-politician populist and we'll be stuck with him  for next 4-8 years unless he's in jail  for child rape...then we're stuck with homophobic Pence....scary!

She is also in bed with Monsanto and the anti GMO movement, which I'm part of, is mostly progressives and they know she isn't one of them.

The main problems with "the Donald" is that he is a demagogue.

He has no real positions or values. He rode to power on a wave of resentment by making outlandish promises.

He is already started flip-flopping on those.I suspect that his beloved "deplorables" and the alt-right will turn on him very quickly.

The man has been sued 400 plus times and lost a third of them (mostly on back taxes and unpaid wages). About 75 women claiming to be assault victims of the Donald. Most of them will be dropped or tossed by 'conservative" judges. President/President-elect are immune to the law i.e. Dick Cheney therefore he'll never see prison. He is on bound to become the worst social & environmental President. He is in the White House  to serve himself with expected enormous wealth. He claims he won't take a presidential salary which is utter bullshit.  His words are like asking a snake not to bite your hands. Every demagogue has made populist promises but flip the switch to form an authoritarian government. I fear we might be leading into our first American Dictatorship. Run for the hills; viva la revolution.  Build the wall around the Trump empire...

It looks like we're stuck with a man who is morally and intellectually unfit for the highest office in the land if not the world.
Could the Electoral College defeat Trump? It's possible.

The EC fail us mightily. How is this man so morally corrupted qualifies to control the realm of  our lands? The man is best suited any 3rd world country than to control an economy of $100 trillion dollars. He become Putin's puppetmaster to string him along to boost his ever expanding ego.. 2017 is the start of the decade of Hell.
