Two thoughts for the thread............

1) could the rise of AEW be a motivator for Vince to turn more of the day-to-day running of the company over to Paul L.., a.k.a. HHH?

2) granted that AEW is in its formative stage and I'm just a casual follower; as an example, I'll watch a good NBA game before I watch WWE. But, I've heard of almost none of the women that might be signed with AEW. Seems they have a lot of work ahead. One only needs to refer to the weakness and barely alive status of TNA, as an example of poor marketing and lack of financial backing. Just because the Khan family is involved won't guarantee success.

Like with WCW, no matter how big the backers are or what big names youíve got booked. It all depends on how you use them.

First, a correction: It apparently is Kylie Rae AEW signed, not Kay Lee Ray.† The problem aapparently was that Meltzer said it on a broadcast and different people heard what he said different ways -- hence, conflicting reports. More about her:

https://lastwordonprowrestling.com/2019/01/31/indie-star-kylie-rae-reportedly-he
aded-to-aew/

Now, to the questions:

1) I suspect (and fear) serious competition will make Vince do the opposite -- get even more involved. When he feels threatened, he always seems to feel the product needs -- what else? -- more McMahons, both on the air and off.

Which would be counterproductive here, both for WWE quality and for its purpose of squelching competition. Part of AEW's appeal beyond competitive salaries is creative control: They're not hiring writers (at least to start) and are telling the wrestlers they can shape their characters -- "play their music," as Cody puts it.† That should be, well, music to the ears of someone like Dean Ambrose, who's leaving WWE over just that issue.† More HHH and less Vince would be more attractive to a lot of talents.† I just don't see it happening in this situation.

2) No big-name women yet, and I imagine they'd like to land a few.† But while some big names help both among men and women, I think AEW's target audience is more interested in quality performers.† They're not looking to do imitation WWE, as the former TNA tried for years to do. ROH or New Japan might be closer to the model.† Assuming their TV outlet is a substantial one, part of the audience (the part beyond the hard core) will be introduced to a lot of names they didn't know, enjoying the discovery of new talents.

Where the women are concerned, big names are likely to matter less than they will with the men simply because widespread attention to women's wrestling is new enough that there aren't as many big names, particularly names well known to Americans.† There aren't many available equivalents to Chris Jericho or even Cody, the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.† But there don't need to be, so long as they can get over on the show.

Agreed, Khan money is no guarantee.† But the money, name, and sports-promotion experience make an excellent launching pad when combined with the other people there who know the business very well.

P.S. I see Spin and I were writing at the same time and there's some overlap in our posts. Pardon the duplication.

Excerpt from Wrestling Observer report on press conference promiting the next All In show, covering the women who will be there:

"Brandi Rhodes followed and announced that Aja Kong and Yuka Sakazaki both would be appearing at Double or Nothing. Sakazaki is a regular for Tokyo Joshi Pro, which is under the DDT umbrella. Kylie Rae followed those announcements, with Brandi Rhodes noting she was no longer a free agent. Nyla Rose soon followed and the two had a staredown which eventually led to a seperation.  Rae was trained by ACH and has wrestled for Booker Tís Reality of Wrestling promotion, as well as competing for RISE and SHIMMER in the past.

Nyla Rose has wrestled for Warriors of Wrestling, and has worked for a number of promotions in Japan including Sendai Girls, Marvelous and Zero One."

Aja Kong is a legend in Japan, so she's a big name among wrestling fans, though not casuals.

The latest signing: Bea Priestley of Stardom.  She's a good pickup in her own right.  And it can't hurt that she's also the girlfriend of Will Ospreay, surely also an AEW target.

The latest signee, Sadie Gibbs, is a powerhouse!† Read about her here:

https://www.f4wonline.com/other-wrestling/sadie-gibbs-signs-all-elite-wrestling-...

Match with her catching a guy and transitioning into a press slam (7:46), overpowering him (starting at 5:37), doing a test of strength (7:00) and other power moves:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNNRhcSPaYk

That was mainly power moves.  Now look how she upped her game in Japan:

Here she is lifting 220 pounds over her head:

Photos, both recent and older ones from her fitness/figure days.† If some of these look familiar, I put them in a post on her under Indy women a few months ago:

And now they've got Allie:

https://www.f4wonline.com/other-wrestling/former-knockouts-champion-allie-signs-...

No announcement on whether she'll do double duty with Impact.  If not, she has a long-term storyline which you'd think they'd let her finish up.  Looking at Wikipedia, her first Impact contract was announced March 23, 2016, so if they've been going on a one-year basis, hers is expiring right about now.  And Impact has tapings in Canada this weekend.  Will The Bunny get a happy ending?  Will the darkness consume her, fueling a vengeful rampage by Rosemary?  We may know in a few days.

Update: Allie reportedly did not re-sign with Impact -- by the company's choice, though they liked her, to "refresh the roster."  (Not sure Madison Rayne's return counts to that end.)  Her final appearance will be tomorrow night on a pre-taped episode.  More here:

https://411mania.com/wrestling/allie-officially-signs-aew/

Dang it!  Not that she'll be in AEW, which is great because she'll get more exposure, but that she and Rosemary  probably don't have time for a satisfactory resolution to her storyline.  Seems like they could use at least this weekend's tapings to play that out.

BTW, Masters of the Multiverse will continue, as will the DemonBunny company.  So somewhere in the Multiverse, our beloved bunny will live on, hopping down the bunny trail and getting head pats from her demon friend.

Here's this week's AEW Double or Nothing episode, where she gets introduced about two minutes in.  Among other things, we see Sandra the Seamstress (ex-WWE, seen on Total Divas) is commenting on how she has great shoulders that they should expose.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1N4HYNUjbk

As I heard someone say, she should be promoted as Allie Elite.  It's a natural.

Prospects look strong for AEW to be on TNT this fall:
